He Only Took My Hand

Last night while I was trying to sleep,
My son's voice I did hear
I opened my eyes and looked around,
but he did not appear.

He said; Mom you've got to listen,
You've got to understand
God didn't take me from you, mom,
He only took my hand.

When I called out to Him that day...
the instant that I died,
He reached down and took my hand,
and pulled me to His side.

He pulled me up and saved me,
from misery and pain.
He showed me the splendor of Heaven,
Such beauty words can't explain.

He said, "Dustin, my son,
you have a choice you know,
You can stay here,
you really don't have to go."

But His gaze so filled with infinite love,
pierced deep within my heart,
Pure liquid love washed over me,
from Him I could not part.

My search is really over now,
I've found happiness within,
All the answers to my empty dreams
and all that might have been.

I love you all and miss you so,
I'll always be nearby;
My body's gone forever,
but my spirit will never die.

And so, you must all go on now,
live one day at a time,
Please just understand -
God did not take me from you,
He only took my hand...

Dedication to Dustin James Ellis

Dustin James Ellis departed from this life on March 17, 2001 at the tender age of 16
and entered the portals of heaven. Though we say goodbye for a season, it doesn't have
to be forever. Dustin cannot return to us, but we can, when our journey this side of heaven
comes to an end, go to him. May all who knew and loved him and those who love him still,
make heaven their eternal destination.
